Evaluation of The Spryfield Model

Monitoring improved access to community-based pediatric care.

Spryfield, Nova Scotia, is a vibrant community that faces challenges that contribute to difficulties for families in accessing healthcare for their children. For that reason, the IWK Health Centre's Spryfield Model, set up in 2012, works with family physicians and other health professionals to provide consulting pediatric health care for children 0-16 years old in their own community. The goal of the Spryfield Model is to improve access to necessary health care by reducing barriers to care and by improving access to community supports already in place.

Our research will use available health data to compare access to pediatric care and other health service use for children in the Spryfield community before and after the Model was introduced, and in comparison with a similar community that does not use the Spryfield Model of pediatric health care. Our results will be useful for planning pediatric services and allocating resources.
